A number of prevention and educational workshops and briefings are available through Counseling Services and Family Advocacy Program (FAP). Classes are open to all service members, their families and DoD civilians. Classes are held at MCAS New River, Bldg. AS-90 located on the corner of Curtis and White Street. Pre-registration is encouraged; however, it is not required. For additional information, contact Marine and Family Programs 910-449-6110. The following workshops and briefings are offered:

Married and Loving It: This evidence-based curriculum is a two-day workshop series for individuals or couples who want to build or renew skills for a strong, healthy marriage. Each class focuses on key foundational aspects of happy marriages. Easy to follow steps are taught which can be applied to help couples embrace their relationship and become healthier and happier. Anger Management in the 21st Century: The anger management course is a four part program which need to be taken in sequence to provide the most effective development of the eight core skills. This four day workshop is for people who want to build a solid foundation and learn how to manage this strong emotion in healthier ways. Discussions are organized around eight core skills of anger management. The course is practical, efficiently organized, clearly presented, and most importantly-useful! |
Suicide Prevention Briefs
We offer services in suicide prevention to commands and individuals. Briefs as well as individual counseling are provided on request. The goal is to have all Marines safe from harm both at home and abroad. |
STOP (Innovative Skills, Techniques, Options and Plans for Better Relationships)
An open-ended eight (Orientation) or 16 week (Advanced) psycho-educational treatment program. This group is for males only. Referrals to this group are generally due to reports of an incident of relationship violence, but are not limited to such. The structured interventions, clear guidelines and philosophical orientation seek to equip men with a wider range of emotionally intelligent skills, allowing them to better deal withpowerful relationship issues and thus always make the most responsible choicesin regards to the management of conflict. Specific skills - training exercises, handouts, homework, and other resources are utilized. The intent is to provide a safe, therapeutic environment where focus is placed on belief systems re: male/female roles within emotionally committed relationships, mutual respect and consideration, communication skill-building, the enhancement of conflict management skills. The group intervention also seeks to expand one's awareness and understanding of the myriad of tactics that characterize an inequitable and abusive relationship, and most importantly, facilitate the extinction of same while infusing one's relationship with equality, unconditional support, mutual respect, and love. |

***Marine and Family Programs will continue to evaluate the classes throughout the year and if necessary, will revise the schedule accordingly. All classes are taught by a certified facilitator providing interactive, effective and evidenced based curricula. Parking is available in front of building as well as overflow parking at the Child Development Center. This is a non-smoking facility and it is requested that smoking guidelines be adhered to at all times. Due to the class content and comfort of class participants children are not allowed in the classes. For questions or to sign up for a class please call (910) 449-6110.
