Babysitter's Training is an American Red Cross Certification class. If your are between the ages of 11 and 18 years, and would like to acquire the knowledge, skills, and confidence to care for infants and school-aged children, this class is for you. The training combines video, activities, hands-on training and discussions for a complete learning experience. The babysitter's course helps you interview for a babysitting job, choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games, learn diapering and feeding techniques, handle bedtime issues, and learn tips for having a safe babysitting experience. A two day class designed for both single parents and two parent households. Your involvement in this program can be the first step toward becoming a more confident parent. Objectives for the course include discovering how prior and present attitudes and emotions affect parenting behavior; learn basic techniques that help to be an effective parent; learn to motivate your child to avoid negative behaviors; improve communication and listening skills with your child; learn the principles of rule setting and discipline; understand the effects of alcohol and drugs on behavior. This is a three hour class to educate parents about the possible impact of divorce on children when they are coping with the painful and agonizing breakup of their family. Topics of discussion include: learning how to effectively co-parent, typical reactions of children of different ages, things children need to know and hear, tips for single parenting again, and what both parents can do to help their children deal with and adjust to the losses and changes involved. Issues surrounding the remarriage of one or both parents will also be presented and tips to help step-parents and children adjust to a new family. Call 449-5343 to reserve your seat.
